Elevating Culinary Standards at Bishop Perowne CE College
Background
Bishop Perowne CE College, a renowned Church of England secondary institution in Worcester, Worcestershire, caters to a diverse student body of approximately 1,050 pupils, aged 11 to 16. As the college geared up for its new building extension, a vision emerged – the conception of an avant-garde commercial kitchen and food service counter.
Objective
Our task was to craft a design that not only complements the architectural ethos of the new extension but also amplifies the culinary experience for the students, whilst remaining within budgetary constraints.
Implementation
1. Collaborative Approach:
We engaged extensively with the school’s catering team, ensuring that our designs for both the kitchen and dining space were meticulously aligned with their vision and operational needs.
2. Cutting-edge Kitchenware:
The centrepiece of our design was a cooking island, supplemented by strategic prep areas and robust refrigeration solutions. Our choices leaned towards industry stalwarts: Rational Combi Ovens, Falcon oven ranges, Foster refrigeration, E&R Moffat Fabrication, EPAS Grease Taps, and Hobart Warewashing. Additionally, we revitalised certain existing equipment, striking a balance between innovation and budget adherence.
3. Food Service Counter:
Custom-crafted to perfection, the counter featured four distinct food collection points. A pivotal inclusion was the dedicated chilled ‘grab-and-go’ station, optimising queue management.
4. Innovative Design Tools:
To infuse a layer of transparency, we employed 3D visualisations alongside traditional layout plans, ensuring the school’s catering team was wholly onboard with our designs pre-installation.
Outcome
Launched in August 2022, just ahead of the academic calendar’s commencement, the project has been received with widespread acclaim. The students are enthralled by the renewed dining milieu, while the staff champions the enhanced functionality over their erstwhile setup. Such endorsements are a testament to our commitment and expertise.
